22.2x32cm | 72 pages

Offset printing + cold foil | Soft cover + hot foil.

Chaza Charafeddine’s “Divine Comedy” series originally shown at Agial Art Gallery in 2010. It is a visually rich and complex project mixing Chaza's own photographic portraits of men, whose features are both masculine and feminine, with 1940s Iranian, Indian, Afghani, and Egyptian popular portrayals of mythological beings. She also mixes her portraits with Mughal Islamic art from Persian and Turkish miniatures of the 15th to the 18th centuries.

The eponymous artist book extends this complex process by installing the artworks in a layout inspired by Islamic miniatures, adding rich backgrounds and frames as well as the artist’s own hand-written texts.

Pushing further this play on modernity and tradition, the book is printed with state of the art cold foil technology, in partnership with Anis Commercial Printing Press, adopting a resolutely modern finish, and shining with gold foil on all artworks.

Texts by: Chaza Charafeddine and Abbas Beydoun (Eng. and Arab.), and Thierry Savatier (French).
